Welcome to 'travel safety' ! Today we are going to have a look at airplane safety. Since 911, people have been more nervous about flying. If you are frightened of getting on a plane you should remind yourself that flying is the safest mode of transport by a long shot. Recent research showed that you would have to travel on a random flight every day for 19,000 years to be involved in a plane crash. By choosing not to fly you could really be missing out. General plane safety is out of our hands. However, there are several steps we can take to ensure that we stay safe during a flight.
When you go to the airport you have to be prepared to wait in possibly long lines to get through airport security. Be ready for this!
If you are a fearful flyer and are nervous about crashing you could choose an airline that uses the newest and 'safest airplanes'. Whenever there is a crash, people often have renewed concerns about airline safety.
Airplane safety tips
We have some airplane safety tips to make your flying experience safer and more comfortable.
- Make sure you are in good health to fly. If you have any health conditions or are overweight, chat to your doctor and get a check up before flying.
- Move around as much as you can during a long flight. Even if you are restricted to your chair there are exercises that you can do to keep the blood flowing.
- Keep your body hydrated. Avoid alcoholic beverages and salty foods.
- Listen to the flight attendant and all announcements carefully.
- Obey the fasten seat belt signs.
- Make sure that you bring all the appropriate provisions for your children.
- If you have children, ensure that their seat belts fit properly and are fastened when needed.
- Don't panic! You may feel anxious when flying but try to relax by taking deep breaths, reading a good book or listening to relaxing music.
We hope these airplane safety tips will be useful. With all the press airplane safety has gotten in recent years, it is easy to be put off flying. However we must remind ourselves that airplanes are the safest mode of transport by far and since 911 airplane safety has been a top priority for the government and the industry.
