Baby Safety Products

"Hi folks! My name is Baby Carter, and I'm here to tell you all I've learned in my first year about baby safety products."

Baby Carter's Safety Tips

"All right. When I was small, there weren't a lot of baby safety products my parents and grandparents needed to be concerned with except maybe my crib and my car seat. Apparently the car seat was the big one. I grew out of my first one so my mom got me a bigger one. It's one of those convertible ones that was a rear-facing seat until I turned one or reached 20 pounds. Then I was allowed to face forward, which was a relief. I like to see where I'm going, not where I've been.

And when I sleep, they put this thing around me so I can't sleep on my stomach. It has something to do with preventing some condition called SIDS. I don't know what it is. All I know is this device limits my movement when I'm trying to get comfortable sleeping. But, I don't have to use it anymore. I sleep a lot better now.

Now that I'm older, there are more baby safety products that mom and dad had to buy. One of them was a high chair. Now, mom and dad didn't buy me an actual high chair. It's more like a booster seat that they can attach to a kitchen chair. It's cool because I get my own eating space, I can see everyone and I don't fall out. But God help them if they eat in front of me and don't offer me any of their food! How rude!

Oh--did I tell you I'm walking now too? Yeah....now that I'm more mobile, I can check things out. Of course, I was doing that before, too. When I was crawling, I found these little slits in the wall and I noticed you could stick stuff in them. I found out they're called outlets. One day I was about to stick my finger in one when mom stopped me. After that, she put these baby safety products called outlet covers in them so I couldn't stick stuff in them. Great. My plans were thwarted once again. I guess it was for my own good though. Something about electricity and getting shocked, whatever that means.

They aren't letting me see what's in drawers or cabinets either. What's up with that? I keep trying to get in this drawer at grandpa and grandma's house, and they always tell say 'No no!' (Needless to say, 'no' is not my favorite word!) And beating my hands on the table gets me nowhere. But the last time I was there, I wasn't able to get the drawer to move. I guess grandma heard about baby safety products called drawer latches to keep babies like me out of drawers and cabinets.

Back on the subject of exploring, there are these toddler safety products called safety gates that are keeping me from going up and down stairs. What don't they want me to see? I'll find out someday, you mark my words! All the safety products in the world won't be able to stop me! Then, as Stewie Griffin would say, 'Victory Shall Be Mine!' If they try to stop me, I'll run them over in my new excavator dad picked up for me at Home Depot."
