Home Safety

When you think of home safety, you're probably thinking of anything that can cause a fire.

But there are a lot of other things that can be dangerous in a house without necessarily causing a fire that are still a threat to your home safety. Read on and learn all about it from the experts. They have all the home safety tips you need.

Home safety in the garage
The garage is one of the least safe places in the house. Knowing some home safety tips for the garage can prevent accidents. Here are some safety tips for the garage:

Store chemicals in locked cabinets, particularly if you have small children or pets.
Store flammable materials like gasoline in the appropriate containers. In addition, make sure the containers are appropriately labeled.
Lock up power tools and other tools, especially saws or anything with a sharp edge.
Don't try to enter or exit a garage while the door is going down.
Always keep a close eye on children in the garage.
Make sure the garage door opener is working properly, and make sure the auto-reverse sensors are working. And don't let children play with the garage door opener remotes.
Store children's toys where they can get to them so you reduce the temptation for them to go exploring in the garage.

Preventing slips and falls leads to home safety
Tripping and falling in a house or outside of a house can result in a slight bump or bruise or a far more serious injury. Follow these home safety tips to prevent trips and falls:

Make sure rugs don't slide by placing a rug gripper underneath them.
If you wax a floor, be sure everyone in the house knows it so they don't slip and fall.
Make sure there are no objects blocking stairs, and make sure all staircases have handrails that are sturdy and unbroken.
Keep all walkways free of clutter. Get rid of things you no longer need, use or want, and store the things you keep neatly.

Miscellaneous home safety tips
These home safety tips don't apply to everyone, but they're worth mentioning:

If your children have a trampoline, make sure it has a "safety net" around the sides.
If you have a pool, post pool safety where they can be seen and make sure everyone understands them.
If you have a gun in the house, keep it locked away from children and unauthorized users.
If a blizzard, hurricane, tornado or any other kind of bad weather is being predicted, follow weather safety tips for that particular situation.

Invest in basic precautions and take all these home safety tips to heart to keep you and your family safe at home. The best way for children to learn is by example and practicing things like kitchen safety will also get you into the habit. A lot of this safety information is common sense, however, it is all too easy to let things go and let home safety slip down on your list of your priorities. Child safety is so important and you should keep yourself abreast of all related issues to ensure the safety of your children.
