Most men dream of an organized garage for aesthetic purposes. But an organized garage also means a safe garage.

Organization and Garage Safety

Having an organized garage is beneficial on many levels. It's easier to find things, and if you store things in an organized manner rather than haphazardly, you're less likely to lose things. In addition, you're less likely to have fires or accidents. Think about it--you store lots of sharp things like saws and rakes in the garage, and if they aren't either in a garage organization cabinet or hung on the wall in plain sight, you could end up cutting yourself accidentally, or worse--if you have small kids, they could get hurt trying to get their toys out. One of the most important things about garage organization when you have small children is to store their bikes and toys in an area that's away from anything sharp or any chemicals.

Speaking of chemicals, the garage is where we tend to store a lot of chemicals like fertilizers for the yard, paint supplies, fluids for cars, etc. And after you mow the lawn, if you put the mower back in the garage immediately, the engine could still be giving off gas fumes. In fact, all of these things things could cause garage fumes that can lead to a fire.

To avoid fires and fumes, and to keep kids and pets out of them, keep them in a locked cabinet, or at the very least on a high shelf in a well-ventilated area. If your garage doesn't really have a well-ventilated area, if you start smelling fumes of any kind in your garage, open the door and let it air out. Then find the source of the fumes. Chances are you didn't get a lid on something tight enough.

Here are some fire safety for the garage:

Don't put anything away when it's hot. Let grills, lawn mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, etc. cool off before putting them away.
Make sure there's no questionable wiring in the garage
Keep the garage clean with garage organization tools
Don't leave your car running in the garage
Don't use generators or grills in the garage

These days, there are plenty of garage organization tools out there to make your garage nice and tidy. You can put up pegboard, shelves, bike racks, cabinets....the options are endless! Not only will garage organization make your garage aesthetically pleasing, but it is one of the keys to garage safety as well.
