Charcoal Barbeques
Many people these days are opting for gas barbeques over charcoal barbeques.
Benefits of Charcoal
People who buy gas barbeques instead of charcoal barbeques usually do so because they're cleaner, more convenient and easier to use. But a lot of people like the process of stacking the the coals and getting them heated properly on charcoal barbeques. Not to mention the great flavor you get from a charcoal barbeques! That's just something you can't get from a gas grill. Oh, sure, some people say they can't tell a difference, but those people are just trying to justify owning a gas grill. If you don't think one is better than the other, perhaps you should get one of those grills that can be charcoal or gas. However, be prepared to part with some big bucks for one of those.
Speaking of big bucks, charcoal barbeques are generally a lot cheaper than gas grills. The cheapest gas grill you are likely to find is $80-$100, but that's for a bar-bones basic. You can buy small, portable tabletop gas grills for less than that, but you won't get much cooking area. And the propane tank is much smaller as well, so you will run out of fuel much sooner.
Whichever type of grill you buy, remember the rules of BBQ safety. They could also be called the rules of fire safety because most of them are intended to avoid fires. When you have a gas grill, the main things to remember are to make sure there are no leaks in the hoses or connections so there's no chance of explosion, don't store the propane tank in really hot areas or inside and make sure you store it upright.
For charcoal grills, make sure the hot coals are completely cooled before you dispose of them, and don't use your grill on a deck on a windy day. Many apartment fires are caused when a charcoal grill is left out on a deck with hot coals still in, the wind knocks the grill over, spilling hot coals everywhere and catching the deck on fire, which spreads.
And for both types of grills, don't let children or pets near the grill.
